Curatorial statement:
The i3C Artists’ Re-Leaf exhibition celebrates the urban tree canopy, whose shade offers welcome relief from the intensifying heat of our summers. It honors the many hands that nurture these living networks, from city workers to residents who care for street trees and the green spaces beyond their doorsteps. Expanding and protecting urban foliage is one vital way to build resilience in a warming climate.
Inspired by the promise of an ever-expanding canopy, i3C artists have transformed plastic, paper, metal, fabric, ocean debris, and other discarded materials into works that evoke leaves, branches, and the shifting patterns overhead. Through creative reuse, the exhibition celebrates the beauty and resilience of nature while transforming discarded materials into symbols of renewal and hope.
